Kindle
My apartment is becoming more and more overrun with books. I have accumulated over 30 books in the last 16 months, and therefore I am in need of a bookshelf. My fiancé wasn't to sure about this idea and suggested I looked into getting a kindle, so I can save space and have a gadget that I can read off.
I was a bit dubious at first I have to say. I love going into the bookstore, smelling coffee and paper, browsing the isles looking for that next tale to immerse myself in. So a Kindle didn't exactly appeal to me. That was until I started doing some research and looking at the Sony eBook and the quality of the screen. From this I new that the Amazon Kindle just had to be better, after all I don't know of many who have an eBook.
Only a few days later I had ordered my very own Kindle, complete with Burn Orange leather cover. UPS, for once, didn't mess my order up and I had it three days before I expected it to arrive. When I un-boxed it the screen was already on, although I thought this was an overlay, not realizing until closer inspection that it was the screen. I followed the instructions and once I was given the WiFi password (thanks to my fiancé and his super safe passwords) I was well on my way to downloading my very first Kindle book "Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove" by Christopher Moore.
All of the content of the book is there, and there is a small bar at the bottom of the 'page' to show you your percentage through the book. The best way to describe what the page looks like is "Paper in HD", I know it sounds silly, but the quality is so clear and so easy to read! The Kindle will also play MP3s so my Audible account was added and my latest audio book was immediately on the device.
The Kindle store is perfect, searching for a book can be done just by typing on the keyboard on the bottom, or you can browse by author, genre, just like Amazon. The news paper and magazine subscription is one service I might not use, I'm not a fan of the newspapers, but it is still a good feature.
There is a browser on the Kindle, but to be honest, I tried it out once, but it not meant to be used for facebook, so I'm not sure I'll use it...yet.
I like being able to download a sample of every book I want to read but don't want to commit to. The new Kindle boasts that it will download a book within 60 seconds, and a lot of the 'out of copyright' books are free. So far, all of the books I have added to my wish list are cheaper than the paper version.
So, I am converted, never again will I buy a book (Unless its a cook book, I don't want food over my Kindle).
